The use of Catalan among young people is in an emergency situation. Only 35.2% of young people aged 15 to 29 in the Principality have Catalan as their usual language, 34.5% in the Islands and 0.1% in Northern Catalonia . This is stated in the study "Young people and the use of Catalan: an x-ray of the audiovisual sector" , from the Mèdia.cat observatory. With the aim of reversing this situation, ClapClap was born, which will initially be integrated into the YouTube and Twitch video platforms, but will gradually add others such as Instagram and TikTok.
The main purpose is to help spread the Catalan language in the younger sector of the population who are the ones who spend more time on social networks. Access to ClapClap is free and everyone will be able to access content through a variety of topics, watch live channels and discover new creators from any device with an internet connection.
The platform also has two subscription options : one monthly and one annual. The advantages are that they will have access to advanced content, such as "tapping", which is like the "likes" of social media. Each creator will be able to donate up to five to each video, so it helps increase a creator's profits and also helps fund the platform. Subscribers will be able to browse ClapClap without seeing advertising or accessing content exclusively, among others.
