"The service was born with the opening of the Roca Umbert Library in Granollers in 2005, which had computers and public access wifi, as well as occasional digital advice from the library staff. A year later, the computer room began to have a stable program, with courses, workshops and various proposals related to the digital literacy of citizens. In 2011, the library was officially registered as an ICT Point," explains Marta Fontseca, ICT Point facilitator at the Roca Umbert Library. Today, twenty years later, the ICT Point continues to promote digital training for young, middle-aged and old people . "In our activities, we have all kinds of audiences, both by age, elderly people, adults, young people, adolescents and children, and by type of group, people with a situation of vulnerability or people with disabilities," points out Sofia Möller, director of the Roca Umbert Library. The ICT Point of the Roca Umbert Library also proposes a wide program of activities with the aim of accompanying citizens in the discovery of new technologies, such as, for example, a programmable LED workshop led by professional Jeppe Rasmussen from KontinuumLAB or activities to use artificial intelligence tools from a critical, ethical, conscious and responsible perspective.
"The Open Digital Classroom is one of our star services. It is an individualized attention service and personalized advice to accompany citizens in carrying out procedures and in resolving concrete and specific digital doubts. The aim of the initiative is to lose the fear of technology, influence the digital divide and generate a safe and trusting space with the users of the ICT Point", adds Fontseca. "We have very loyal participants, very linked to the ICT Point and the Roca Umbert Library and very eager to learn and share knowledge about technology", says Möller.
