The DonaTIC Awards pursue a dual purpose. On the one hand, they recognize and highlight the fundamental role of women in the professional, business and academic world of new technologies. On the other hand, they offer references to girls and adolescents who are unsure whether or not to dedicate themselves to the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (CTEM).
The award was created with the aim of promoting the presence of women and their participation and empowerment in the construction of the digital society with equality criteria. After ten calls and 777 applications submitted in total, the DonaTIC Awards have consolidated themselves as a benchmark when it comes to recognizing and disseminating the work of Catalan businesswomen, professionals and students in the technological and digital field.
The Secretary of Digital Policies, Maria Galindo , highlighted the positive evolution during the 2024 awards gala at the La Paloma hall in Barcelona : "10 years ago, women were 1 in 5 workers in the ICT sector. Now we are 1 in 3". However, the goal has been set that " at least 50% of new ICT jobs are occupied by women ". In this sense, she assured that "we are working to break the glass ceiling, with programs aimed at pre-managerial ICT women, as well as strategies to get more women ICT students".
The Awards are structured into 8 categories according to professional profile and four subcategories: entrepreneur , businesswoman , professional , academic/researcher , disseminator , ICT Revelation Woman , ICT Student (university and FP) and Reference Initiatives (business and entity/training center/institution). They are honorary in nature, without financial support. The awarded candidates receive public recognition for their work, activity or project presented.
The Awards are presented at the beginning of October each year, coinciding with Ada Lovelace Day , the first female programmer in history. This year they will take place on October 2 , at 6:00 p.m. , at the Petit Palau - Palau de la Música Catalana . Registration for the event is closed.
The DonaTIC Awards are an initiative in collaboration with the Catalan Women's Institute , the Women, Business and Economy Observatory of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and the Tertúlia Digital association.
