With the desire to break with the technological giants, La Guixeta was born, a new digital platform for audiovisual and cultural content in catalan. Based on independent and ethical technologies, the initiative has been developed by BitLab Cooperativa, Quesoni and Platoniq Foundation. In particular, La Guixeta emerged during the confinement following the health emergency resulting from Covid-19, when many shows and cultural performances had to be canceled due to force majeure and moved to the digital world. At that time of accelerated digitization, a group of entities from the Social and Solidarity Economy organized themselves to offer free culture without depending on the big platforms. So the open source platform La Guixeta is based on two existing technologies: the online video service PeerTube, a federated and decentralized video platform run by the French non-profit association Framasoft, and the crowdfunding platform Goteo. The first confirmed contents are the program 'Santa Paciència' by Ana Polo and the pilot 'Diàlegs Migrants' with the collaboration of La Fera. The aim is to become an alternative for cultural shows linked to the Social and Solidarity Economy. La Guixeta will open to the public in 2024.
