Organized in memory of Ada Lovelace, the first programmer in history, the European Ada Awards want to reward and publicize girls, women and organizations that develop a remarkable job in the world of ICT. Just made public the list of finalists in the 2016-2017 edition.
Nuria Oliver, engineer in telecommunications and PhD in the Media Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), is one of the two finalists in the category of "Digital Woman of the Year". She competes in this category with Saskia Van Uffelen, from Belgium. Nuria Oliver is known for her work on computational models of human behavior, artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, mobile computing and "big data" for the social good.
The finalists in the category of "Digital Girl of the Year" are Cerys, a girl of 14 years from England that has been experiencing with Raspberry Pi computers, and Gabi, from Croatia, also 14 years old and who is dedicated to web programming and mobile applications.
The finalists in the category of "Digital Impact Organizations of the year" are GeekGirlsCarrots, from Poland, and CyberMentors, fromGermany. The first is a global organization dedicated to fostering connections, learning and inspiration for women in technology. And the second is the largest online mentoring program in Germany for girls in STEM.
The winners will be announced in the fourth edition of the awards ceremony of the European Ada Awards, to be held on 8 December 2016 in Brussels.
