On September 18, 2025, the Table of Entities of the Third Social Sector of Catalonia and Catalonia International organized the Social Europe debate to analyze the impact of the new multiannual financial framework of the European Union (EU) 2028-2034 on social policies . The event was attended by institutional representatives and experts in the field.
Xavier Trabado, president of the Third Social Sector Board of Catalonia , highlighted the need to work so that the new European budget has a significant impact on social spending , not only in Europe but also in Catalonia. Furthermore, Trabado warned that the advance of the far right, the increase in the warmongering climate and the increase in hate speech are already conditioning European social policies.
For her part, Laura Foraster, general director of Catalunya Internacional , stressed that the new multiannual financial framework should provide more flexibility in the face of unforeseen circumstances and establish simpler financial programs so that entities, companies and other actors can access them easily. In this way, resources would reach people in more vulnerable situations.
This meeting served to highlight the importance of collaboration between third sector entities and institutions in the definition of European social policies, with the aim of ensuring that European resources reach the people who need them most.
