Driven by the Department of Business and Labor of the Generalitat de Catalunya with the collaboration of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), the AINA project has recently received the Institutional Initiative Connection Award for its commitment to promotion and defense from the presence of the Catalan language to the new information and communication technologies. The award was given in the framework of the DMTforum 2023 organized by the Catalan entity Fceminte on the occasion of World Telecommunications Day.
The AINA project is an initiative based on data technologies and artificial intelligence that aims to get technology to understand and speak the Catalan language. The intention is to teach Catalan to the machines so that citizens can relate to them and participate fully in the digital world with the Catalan language. Currently, new corpora are being created to incorporate dialectal variants of Catalan, different linguistic registers and voice and image files. The intention of the initiative is that companies that create applications based on artificial intelligence, such as, for example, voice assistants, Internet search engines, automatic translators and correctors or conversational agents, can do so easily in the Catalan language .
