Technovation challenges the participants to develop a mobile application to solve a problem in the world. In Catalonia, 199 girls, divided into 40 teams, have worked on projects for 12 weeks. Throughout the process, they had the support of 47 mentors.
26 teams have reached the regional final, which was developed in Barcelona in two days: on May 6 was held the final of the senior category and 12 May the junior category. Two teams per category have obtained passes to the semifinal, with the winning teams in the final in Madrid.
The senior winners are:
- Technowiners, they have designed a mobile application to prevent the consequences of poverty and at the same time, the deteriorating environment.
- The Holbertons Betty, who designed a mobile application that enables NGOs to collect donations and at the same time, end the waste of food resources, focusing on the field of poverty.
Junior winners are:
- Happy Appies, who designed an app called Wallafood that aims to help people with limited resources to access the surplus food of individuals and companies facilitating the collection.
- CRABUM, who designed the app Get 10 that facilitates the exchange of knowledge among students who have more habilites in some subjects and those who are in others.
The 2017 edition of Technovation Challenge has involved more than 10,000 children accompanied by 4485 mentors, in 116 countries. There have been state finals and the winning teams of these access to the virtual international semifinal, where the finalists will come to San Francisco in August and compete for prizes between 2,500 and 15,000 dollars.
Espiral Education and Technology has been the ambassador of the national program, in collaboration with the Catalan Government through the Punt TIC Network, the Ministry of Telecommunications, Cybersecurity and Digital Society and the Catalan Institute of Women.
