The Department of Equality and Feminism of the Generalitat de Catalunya has presented the new awareness campaign on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is commemorated on Tuesday, November 25. Under the name 'If it looks like sexist violence, it is sexist violence' , the Generalitat de Catalunya focuses on digital sexist violence, a form of violence that unfortunately grows day after day. In this sense, digital sexist violence can manifest itself in various ways, from constant location monitoring to massive insults on social networks, including the dissemination of intimate images without consent. The aim of the awareness campaign is to raise awareness of the fact that this type of violence can affect any woman, of any age, and that it is often minimized or not recognized as sexist violence. The anonymity and speed with which information circulates on the Internet and social networks facilitate impunity and multiply the impact that aggression has on women's lives, such as isolation, fear, shame or insecurity.
Along these lines, the Generalitat de Catalunya offers different Specialized Intervention Services, including the Specialized Intervention Service on Digital Violence, one of the most recent and innovative initiatives of the Government of Catalonia in the fight against gender-based violence. The aim is to provide a public, comprehensive and specialized response to a growing reality: gender-based violence that occurs in the digital environment. Therefore, it is a Catalan coverage service that serves women, adolescents and girls and people close to victims of digital gender-based violence and provides support and advice to professionals from the Network for Addressing Gender-Based Violence in Catalonia. Faced with this cruel reality, from the Punt TIC Network, we firmly join the awareness-raising, advocacy and denunciation campaign of the Department of Equality and Feminism of the Generalitat of Catalonia and we take this opportunity to remember that in the face of any sexist violence you can call the hotline for women in situations of violence on 900 900 120. Likewise, in case of emergency, you can call 112.
