Last Thursday, June 15, the Cercle Tecnològic de Catalunya organized the presentation of the results of the ICT Barometer 2023. This year, the outstanding reference tool for the study of the technological and digital sphere of Catalonia celebrated its 15 years of life with a successful event with interesting reflections. Specifically, the event took place at the CosmoCaixa facilities in the city of Barcelona.
The TIC Barometer is a study of the technological and digital sphere of Catalonia whose central objective is to offer a representative analysis that provides a broad view of the main indicators. In this sense, the report takes a picture of the Catalan technological ecosystem and shows the future trends of innovation and the future fields of evolution of the technological sector of Catalonia. In this case, artificial intelligence was the main protagonist. During the event, it was discussed how this technology shaped the present and how it would probably define everyday life in the future, impacting sectors such as health or the culture industry, among many others.
One of the main reflections was that although 15 years ago there were platforms like Facebook or YouTube and it was very close to wearing virtual reality glasses, it was not thought that one day algorithms would have such a massive impact or that they would reach this accelerated speed.
In particular, the relationship between artificial intelligence and the health sector was discussed and how it was affecting the field. At all times, it was emphasized that the new technologies helped and made it possible to gain time and efficiency, but that the human component remained essential. Also, the relationship between artificial intelligence and the culture and entertainment industry was discussed, as well as the relationship between artificial intelligence and urban planning, where the importance of work at the service of people. Artificial intelligence meant advanced modeling to understand phenomena in a more sophisticated way and improve people's quality of life and it was proposed to boost digital and terrestrial communications to facilitate the connection between big cities and small towns , extracting the benefits of big cities and crossing them with the potentialities of small towns. Finally, artificial intelligence in the space sector was discussed and shown with the Hypatia mission.
