At the Faculty of Informatics of Barcelona, located on the North Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in the city of Barcelona, the Women in Data Science Barcelona will be held next Thursday, April 20. From 9.30am to 2.30pm, the event will seek to inspire and educate the world's data scientists, regardless of gender, and support women in this professional field. Women in Data Science began as a technical conference at Stanford in November 2015 and today, it is a global movement that includes powerful initiatives around the world organized by female ambassadors.
The event will feature two main panel discussions. The first will be 'Data and cybersecurity', where renowned professionals such as Karina Gibert, professor and director of IDEAI-UPC and vice-dean of COEINF, will participate; Mónica Espinosa, head of innovation at the Cybersecurity Agency of Catalonia; Laia Pagès, executive and research manager of CARNET; Encarna Pau, from the cybersecurity department of Marelli Spain; Meritxell Pineda, director of the Master's in Cybersecurity Management at the UPC, and Jeniffer Woodard, CEO and founder of Insikt Intelligence. Consequently, the 'Data and cybersecurity' table will provide the complementary views of government institutions, research, large corporations, entrepreneurship and innovation.
The second will be 'Data, ecosystem and leadership' and will have the participation of Núria Castell, former dean of the Faculty of Informatics of Barcelona; Clara Lapiedra, founder and CEO of Aula Magna; Lídia Montero, vice-dean and head of studies at the Barcelona Faculty of Informatics; Nataly Buslón, BSC researcher, and Mercè Crosas, former secretary of Open Data and Good Government of the Generalitat de Catalunya. Specifically, the 'Data, ecosystem and leadership' table will provide the views of business, research, academia and administration. This year, the event will be closed by Liliana Arroyo Moliner, director general of Societat Digital.
