Last Thursday, November 21, the Xarxa Punt TIC had a new virtual meeting. The seventh virtual meeting of the year 2024 focused on digital violence and had around twenty participants, among them, Alma Azul Colina and Amani Fadli Dokkali, awarded in the last edition of the DonaTIC Awards, which is organized by the Secretariat of Digital Policies of the Generalitat of Catalonia, in the ICT Student Professional Training category, and Alba Barrientos, which is part of the Agency of Cybersecurity of Catalonia .
First, Alma Azul Colina and Amani Fadli Dokkali presented two of their projects to deal with digital violence: 'DalIA App' and 'Hollywood Nightmare'. 'DalIA App' is an artificial intelligence tool that detects patterns of violence, one's own and others, within conversations on social networks. In fact, Colina and Fadli made a strong case for the need to tackle digital violence in an innovative way. In this sense, Colina and Fadli shared some statistical data in order to raise awareness of the importance of dealing with the problem in a transversal way. According to the National Observatory of Technology and Society, 15.2% of women have experienced repeated harassment by the same person and 4.3% of women who have experienced repeated harassment by the same person you have seen the harasser posting pictures of you without your consent. Along these lines, according to the United Nations, most girls place their first harassment in the digital sphere between the ages of 14 and 16 and it is emphasized that online violence is just as harmful as offline violence. 'Hollywood Nightmare' is a video game that seeks to influence the lack of female representation within the world of video games. Also, in conjunction with the cinematic universe, including the sets of 'Barbie', 'Star Wars' and 'The Matrix', the video game creates a healthy environment where patterns of violence are not promoted and where girls can feel represented Colina and Fadli emphasized that it was a game starring two women, developed by two women and with a cooperative eye and highlighted the importance of making diverse and transformative technology for all.
Alba Barrientos then shared the work of the Cybersecurity Agency of Catalonia and the interdepartmental working group of the Generalitat de Catalunya that works to deal with digital violence. Barrientos explained that the main objectives of this group were to coordinate the preparation of a work plan, collaborate in the execution of campaigns, train and train on digital violence, share tools and resources, detect needs and opportunities and communicate and make visible in order to raise awareness and sensitize the public. Barrientos specified that the working group included members of the departments of Business and Work, Social Rights, Interior and Equality and Feminism of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Catalan Agency for Youth, Digital Culture, the Prosecutor's Office and the Agency for Cybersecurity of Catalonia. At the same time, Barrientos exemplified that, from the Cybersecurity Agency of Catalonia, informative pills were made on various topics depending on the needs detected and that work was currently being done on issues such as, for example, cyberbullying, artificial intelligence risks or the protection of minors. In this sense, Barrientos shared three tools, 'stopncii.org' and 'take it down' to remove photographs uploaded to the Internet without consent and 'taboo, you choose to play with it' to work on sexting and sexpreading with young people. Likewise, Barrientos insisted that it was always necessary to adapt the contents and the languages to the target audience.
