This July, the Canòdrom. The Ateneu d'Innovació Digital i Democràtica , located at 165 Concepción Arenal Street in the city of Barcelona, is promoting a new edition of the 'Open Cinema Stands' series. The proposal includes four successful outdoor sessions on social, urban and technological transformations, collective resistance and uncertain futures. Specifically, the series seeks to promote moments of collective reflection and promote cinema as a tool to review the past, understand the present and draw the future. Therefore, on Friday 10 July, at 9.45pm, the second screening of the series will take place. The film 'L'Olívia i el tertrèmol invisible' will explore evictions, gentrification and the importance of community and neighbourhood organisation in the face of housing insecurity. Created by Irene Iborra in 2025, the film tells the story of Olivia, a twelve-year-old girl who sees her life collapse when her family is evicted. The third screening of the series will follow on Friday, July 17 at 9:45 p.m. The film 'Entre figueres/Taht alshajra' will delve into the emancipation of young women in patriarchal contexts. Created by Erige Sehiri in 2022, the film becomes a sensual and political letter that combines a penetrating visual beauty with a profound political reflection on love, work, desires and the complexities of adult life. The fourth screening of the series will follow on Friday, July 24 at 9:45 p.m. The film 'Ghost in the Shell' will reflect on the relationship between the body, consciousness and technology in a hyperconnected future. Created by Mamoru Oshii in 1995, the film explains that in 2029 brain implants have turned human beings into walking computers and opens the reflection 'What makes us human in a digital world?'. The screenings will be free and without prior registration. Previously, on Friday 3 July, the first screening of the 'Open Cinema Stands' cycle was held with the film 'Stories of the Good Valley'. Created by José Luis Guerín in 2025, the film portrays the urban, social and ecological tensions of the metropolitan peripheries of Barcelona from a humanist perspective that invites us to rethink the urban transformations that are currently taking place.
'Olivia and the Invisible Earthquake', 'Entre figueres/Taht alshajra' and 'Ghost in the Shell' will be the last three screenings to encourage moments of collective reflection and experiencing cinema.
