This spring, the Secretariat for Digital Policies of the Generalitat de Catalunya has presented a new initiative focused on the digital well-being of children and adolescents. The new project mobilizes local commerce throughout the Catalan territory as a support network for children and adolescents. Specifically, commercial establishments allow minors to make emergency calls so that they can contact their family or a reference adult when they do not have a mobile phone. The new initiative is born from an everyday situation such as, for example, children and adolescents who, at a specific moment, need to make a call because they have become disoriented, have lost public transport, cannot find their family or have had any other unforeseen event. In these cases, the new project proposes that local commerce becomes a close and accessible network that allows a simple and immediate response to a stressful and anxious situation. Under the name 'Do a trick', the aim of the new initiative is to avoid excessive, premature dependence on mobile phones and delay access to the first mobile phone for children and adolescents.
The local establishments that have joined have identifying and informative signs such as, for example, a sticker, a poster and various brochures, which designate the space as a safe place where children and adolescents who do not have a mobile phone can call in case of emergency. In this sense, the sticker must be placed in a visible point of the establishment so that children and adolescents can easily identify the businesses that are part of the network. The Generalitat de Catalunya invites establishments to join as points of trust so that children and adolescents can make a call in everyday situations of need. Establishments that wish to participate must fill out a registration form with the basic details of the business and confirm their commitment to the new initiative. The Secretariat for Digital Policies of the Generalitat de Catalunya will validate the application and contact the applicant establishment to formalize the incorporation into the new initiative. At the same time, a database will be created that will be updated periodically on the new project's website so that citizens can have access to the information at all times.
