Recently, the Ferrer i Guàrdia Foundation has published new research on the digital gender gap and how it directly affects adolescence and youth. The new research arises from the need to establish the approach to socio-digital inequalities as a priority for public policies, especially in a vital stage where opportunities, trajectories and forms of social inclusion are consolidated. Under the title 'Digital gender gap: the digital rights of adolescence and youth from an intersectional gender perspective', the latest research collects the main results and offers key readings to promote public policies that contribute to building a fairer and more equitable digital environment. The new research included a first part of documentary analysis and a second part of discussion groups with professionals and adolescents and young people, as well as a survey of local and international experiences and a reading of informative articles. In this sense, the latest research raises reflections on four dimensions: development and environment; participation; education, culture, leisure and play, and identity and privacy. Similarly, the new research from the Ferrer i Guàrdia Foundation identifies threats (digital gender violence and stereotypes and inequalities), challenges (public co-responsibility and the structural approach and effective protection) and opportunities (digital citizenship, collective participation and the promotion of more egalitarian environments).
The new research is part of the 'ParticipaTIC' initiative of the Ferrer i Guàrdia Foundation, which emerged in 2022 to analyze the digital rights of children, adolescents and youth. In 2025, the fourth edition of the 'ParticipaTIC' initiative focused on an intersectional gender approach to delve deeper into the structural, social, cultural and technological factors that reproduce the digital divide and confirmed that the digital environment is a decisive space for the development, socialization and participation of adolescents and youth.
