The Punt Òmnia Camins Fundació , located at 61 Sant Antoni Abat Street in the city of Barcelona, held a workshop on restoring old photographs using artificial intelligence tools. In this regard, participants provided a lot of boxes full of photographic memories such as wedding portraits, childhood images or family photos. Using artificial intelligence tools, participants learned how to recover damaged images, remove cracks and stains, improve blurry faces and even fill black and white photographs with color. Despite being a significantly technological training proposal, Punt TIC highlights the human side of the initiative. "It was very exciting to see how someone found their mother's youthful gaze again, how forgotten details appeared after decades, how a broken photograph stopped being a faded memory and came back to life," explains Sílvia Hernández, facilitator of the Punt Òmnia Camins Fundació. Along these lines, the participants confirmed how artificial intelligence does not replace human memory, since artificial intelligence needs someone to tell it what that dress, those eyes or that hair really looked like. "Sometimes innovating does not consist of looking to the future, but of finding new ways to take care of the past. In a present moment in which artificial intelligence is associated with fear or dehumanization, experiences like this remind us that there is another possible path, using technology to rebuild the bond, combat loneliness and restore dignity to personal stories," says Hernández.
