As part of World Health Day, last Tuesday, April 7, the Punt Òmnia gòTIC Tàrrega offered a talk on digital well-being. Under the title 'Practice digital well-being', the session raised awareness among citizens about the effects of intensive screen use and offered tools to promote healthier use. More than twenty people attended the talk, which aimed to contribute to better integration into everyday life in a context marked by the increase in the use of digital devices in all age groups. During the session, attendees were able to identify various digital discomforts present in everyday life such as cyberaddiction, nomophobia (the fear of being without your mobile phone), phubbing (ignoring people to look at your mobile phone), doom scrolling (the compulsive consumption of negative news), fomo (the fear of missing out) or vamping (the lack of rest due to the abusive use of screens at night).
Beyond describing the risks and threats on the Internet, the talk 'Practice digital well-being' promoted positive, healthy and responsible uses and proposed simple, practical and achievable strategies to improve digital well-being, becoming aware of time and quality of use. Among the most outstanding recommendations, it explained how to deactivate notifications, set usage time limits, practice digital austerity, clean digital devices, avoid using the mobile phone before going to bed or keep it off the table during meals. It also highlighted the importance of promoting face-to-face activities and taking care of physical, emotional and mental health. The talk concluded with a call to find a digital balance, betting on a more conscious and healthier relationship with technology. Finally, an open question and answer session was held, where attendees were able to raise concerns and share experiences.
